Pal·imp·sest

noun
1.a manuscript or piece of writing material on which the original writing has been effaced to make room for later writing but of which traces remain.

The American political process known to the public is a cycle of ritual, a palimpsest of stages each set and reset. Each issue commissions a new carefully crafted visual presentation– a press conference, a graph, a photo-op. The ephemeral objects and actors that make up these facades are the rarely seen seams of the political process, a telling record of how the delicate stage of politics is set. An alternate visual landscape to the democratic process, as it currently stands– at a crux of smoke and mirrors.
